Portrait by Andrea Simms
I am a Korean American multimedia artist raised in the Hudson Valley of New York, currently based in Providence, RI. My work explores diasporic Korean identity, ancestral craft, and relationship to the land through printmaking, illustration, poetry, and gardening. Weaving together plant studies and Korean folklore, I tell stories of resilience and cultivate feelings of belonging in my poetic zines. My work has been exhibited in Rhode Island, New York, Boston, St. Louis, Vermont, and Costa Rica. I have exhibited my printed works at various art book fairs and zine fests, and my zines have been acquired by Harvard Schlesinger Library, Temple University Library, and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. Focused on building a social practice, I create collaborative public art projects, illustrations, and printed work in tandem with gardening and teaching to further environmental justice and food sovereignty. Rooted in community, my work aims to connect people to the land, to each other, and to themselves.
I received my B.A. in Environmental Studies and Studio Art from the University of Vermont in 2021. My education focused on intersectional environmentalism, sustainable food systems, and the intersection between art and the environment. My thesis, Transcending Boundaries, is a comparison of the effects of climate change on human and bird migration.
