Portrait by Andrea Sims
I am a Korean American multimedia artist raised in the Hudson Valley of New York, currently pursuing an MFA in Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI.
I am a printmaker, illustrator, and mural painter most recently exploring diasporic Asian community building and connection to the land. I create narrative and poetic zines that encourage slowness and observation of the natural world drawing inspiration from my experiences as a farmer and environmental educator. Weaving together plant studies and Korean folklore, I tell stories of resilience and cultivates feelings of belonging. I have exhibited my printed works at the Boston Art Book Fair, Multiple Formats Art Book Fair, Philly Zine Fest, and Queer Trans Zine Fest, and my zines have been acquired by the Harvard Schlesinger Library and Temple University Library special collections. Rooted in community, my work aims to connect people to the land, to each other, and to themselves.
I received my B.A. in Environmental Studies and Studio Art from the University of Vermont in 2021. My education focused on intersectional environmentalism, sustainable food systems, and the intersection between art and the environment. My senior thesis, Transcending Boundaries, is a comparison of the effects of climate change on human and bird migration. This project consists of a research paper and series of multimedia woodcut prints.
